FISH HOUSE LIVE IS A LIVE-STREAMING CULINARY COMPETITION FEATURING NOTABLE CHEFS, SUSTAINABLE FISH AND BARKEEPS MAKING FISH HOUSE PUNCH

“Fish House Live" showcases badass chef competitors as they take on an epic head-to-head challenge for their social media fans. Presented by Fish House Live www.fishhouse.live

On August 14th, Taste Network in collaboration with Maxim launched a new live-streaming culinary competition show called Fish House on Facebook Live featuring two celebrity chefs and two notable barkeeps. When watching Fish House, followers of chefs and barkeeps used their smartphone (Instagram Live) to go behind the scenes while contestants charmed their fans who were  putting together an impressive feast for six celebrity judges to vote on. Video highlights of the event can be seen here.

For the first event, celebrity chef Jose Mendin of Pubbelly Group (Miami) competed against Craig Richards of Lyla Lila (Atlanta) plated ingredients directly from the most responsible fisheries on open waters alongside produce from local farmers. Chefs presented three plates to judges including two raw dishes (crudo, ceviche or tiradito) and one Izakaya-inspired hibachi plate highlighting the population controlled Maine Lobster and sustainable Red Snapper from the Gulf Coast.

Simultaneously, two award-winning barkeeps competed with their own take on a historic libation called Fish House Punch. The Georgia based-lineup included Ryan Smith of Lazy Susan Tapas (Macon) and James Wampler of Atlas (Atlanta). Each barkeep had to decide between using Buffalo Trace Bourbon or Wheatley Vodka for the punch competition. Both bar contestants chose bourbon for the punch, yet for late-night, they made classic cocktails featuring Wheatley Vodka.

DJLord of Public Enemy took guests on a musical journey while Brady Lowe hosted a discussion on sustainable fisheries and the future of food. By crossing vast spectrums of global audiences who value ‘farm to table” at the center of their community, Fish House is a virtual culinary summit. A show powered by behind the scenes access to barkeeps, musicians and chef-driven video content.

The winners included Chef Jose Mendin of Pubbelly Group and Ryan Smith of Lazy Susan Tapas, both took top honors with their judge's presentation. A highlight of the culinary sea-voyage Chef Mendin’s Red Snapper Crudo with Truffle Soy Yuzu, Radishes and Sesame Seeds. Ryan’s winning Fish House Punch called “Sophisticated Bitch” was made with Buffalo Trace Bourbon, dark rum, creme de noyeaux, lavender, earl grey tea and oleo saccharum. The crowd favorite crudo of the night was the Poached Lobster with Green Harissa, Sorrel Aioli and Charred Kale prepared by Chef Craig Richards.

Each gastro-competition is an experiential live-streaming event whereas participating chefs and barkeeps present their creations to a panel of six judges and thousands of online viewers in hopes of being named the winner. The Fish House lineup of celebrity judges included Hector Santiago of El Super Pan (ATL), former Atlanta Falcon Ovie Mughelli, DJ Roots Queen, Digital “Ro” Dope, DJ Lord of Public Enemy and Brady Lowe of The Pantry & Provisions. Together with team Fish House, the night was filled with a message to enlighten viewers on important categories of sustainable fish including Bycatch, The Wild Big Blue, Line-Caught, Farmed and Community Supported Fisheries (CSF) while inspiring discussion, education and consumption of responsible seafood.

Fish House is the nation’s first responsible aquaculture food and beverage competition featuring great chefs and badass barkeeps. The original Fish House was established in 1732 and today remains as America’s first fishing cooperative in the 13 colonies. George Washington was an honorary member and visited frequently. Today, the event  pays homage to the old world, when life was simpler and food was cleaner.
